2007 Buffalo Gold???
I have seen mention that 2007 gold and silver Eagles will be available after January 9th. Even the 2006 GAE and SAE products are "no longer available" from the mint.
However, I have not seen any info on 2007 Buffalo availability. Even the 2006 Mint Proof is still available from the mint. So, knowing that the Buff was created by an act of Congress for "at least one year" of production, and knowing that the "year" began at the end of June, is it possible that not only will there be no 2007 Buff, but the Buff will die-off due to lack of intrest?? I have seen figures on the net of around 297,000 produced last year. Does anyone here feel that the Buff is on the way out? |

Re: 2007 Buffalo Gold???
I am really more about the bullion, and tend to stay away from numismatics due to a total lack of knowledge in that regard, but I did purchase two NGC MS 70 "First Strike" Buffs a few months back. Since I wanted some Buffs and had heard they damage easily, I went for slabbed and supposedly PERFECT.
Since then, I've seen these NGC MS 70 FS all over, including TWO lots of 50 each on EBAY!!! Even Tulving says that NGC has graded over 20,000 of these. Anyway, after seeing that NGC did away with the "First Strike" designation, I was kind of hoping that the Mint would do away with the Buff (as in, 2006 only). Then I would have a one year only mintage, PERFECT Buffalo with a defunct FIRST STRIKE designation!!! Well, me and 20,000 other people. |
Re: 2007 Buffalo Gold???
The mint website has a section on the "2007 Scheduled Product Listing".
The following is a copy of part of that section. Availability Date Product Description January 10 Jamestown 400th Anniversary Commemorative Coin January/February United States Mint 50 State Quarters Proof Set January/February United States Mint 50 State Quarters Silver Proof Set January 29 Montana Quarter Bags and Two-Roll Sets February 5 American Eagle Gold Proof Coins February 5 American Buffalo Gold Proof One Ounce Coin Based on the above, they should be releasing a Proof Buffalo one ounce coin anyway. If they do the proof I imagine they will do a Buffalo Bullion coin too. Hope this helps. |
Re: 2007 Buffalo Gold???
I did buy a 2006 Buffalo proof coin just for the heck of it. Scratch free and everything.

Re: 2007 Buffalo Gold???
Doh!!! I was really hoping the Buff would go away despite that it is my favorite.
Thanks for the info Ag Az. |
Re: 2007 Buffalo Gold???
Just an interesting followup. Per my post above (#4), at that time the Mint had the Buffalo Proof coming out on February 5th. Now, per the Mint Website under the 2007 Product Listing Schedule they show the 2007 Buffalo Proof coming out in April. No specific date, just April.
I wonder why the revision? |

Re: 2007 Buffalo Gold???
FYI, 1-ounce sales by U.S. Mint:
2006 Buffalo 323,000 2006 Eagles 205,000 2005 Eagles 356,555 2004 Eagles 417,019 2003 Eagles 416,032 2002 Eagles 222,029 2001 Eagles 143,605 2000 Eagles 433,319 Personally, I was disappointed that they chose to use the Buffalo images again. I love it on the old nickels, but is there a lack of creativity that prevents them from introducing something new? |

But I think it's not a lack of creativity but a lack of GOOD TASTE that goes round today. |
Re: 2007 Buffalo Gold???
I admit, I was at first turned-off by the "Big Nickel" design when I first heard about it. Its true; why rehash a coin that has been done before (epecialyl the Buff/Indian design that has been done to death in generic and Mint silver!!!)
But to see one in real life, for me, was far beyond my expectations. The gold in the Buff is not shiny (bullion here, not proof), and is almost dull. This dullness allows the true color and beauty of the gold to come through. I have some maples, and I do love their shine, though I believe the smaller Mapes outshine the larger ones (maybe that's just mine). I have some Kruggs, which are looking pretty coppery, but I still love them. And of course, I have GAEs. The GAEs are just above the Kruggs in color and shine, but I like the audacious design front and back (sooo American). The Buff is understated and pure, and that is why I love it the most. :proud: |
thoughts
what is the majority's thoughts on the buffalo gold coins...whether or not to keep the coin in the original mint plastic wrap or to put the coin into an air-tite holder....which is better for resale?
